Snowy Mountain Fire Tower ADK - Snowy is a challenging climb. The first part of the hike is an enjoyable walk in the woods, much of it along (or in!) a pretty mountain stream. The last mile and a half of the hike ascends steeply, gaining about 1,400 feet in elevation. There is a beautiful lookout point just before the summit that is a great spot for a break.

Balsam Mountain Fire Tower - first fire tower on the top of a mountain in New York State was placed at the summit of Balsam Lake Mountain in 1887. The existing 47-foot tower was erected in 1919, closed in 1988 and reopened by the Catskill Fire Tower Project and the NYSDEC in 2000.

Burroughs Range/ Slide Mountain - Trail ascends steeply up from Woodland Valley Campground in Phoenicia, NY, through scenic forest land. The tallest mountain in the Catskills and the westernmost peak of the three-peak Burroughs range, Slide is traversed by the Wittenberg-Cornell-Slide Trail. Fantastic views are available from a number of ledges or openings around the peaks.
